CDS General Bipin Rawat
People's General

16 March 1958 | 08 December 2021
General Bipin Rawat was the first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Permanent Chairman of Chiefs of Staff
Committee (COSC). As a first CDS of tri-services, he restructured the organization and made a clear path
for the combine functioning of all three forces. Making next generation war strategy, modernizing Indian
armed forces, promoting made-in-India products for self-reliance are one of the examplary services for our
country, India, and shows his future oriented and progressive thinking.
But the reasons because of which he became most loved general are to enhance the morale of the armed forces,
vocal for the nationalism and boost respect of armed forces in the eyes of the people. Whether it was Myanmar
strikes, Doklam stand off, supported and awarded an army major who, to save his man from lynching, use an
insurgent as a shield, highlighted two front war; he was always applauded by the nationalists.
A couple of statements of "People's General" Bipin Rawat
-
-- on his unifrom and team workOlive green has only one color that is olive green. There is no shade of it. We are one. We should work as a team.
-
-- on Kashmir's dirty warPeople are throwing stones at us, people are throwing petrol bombs at us. If my men ask me what to do, should I say, just wait and die? I will come with a nice coffin with a national flag and I will send your bodies home with honour. Is it what I am supposed to tell them as cheif? I have to maintain the morale of my troops who are operating there.
From many of his gallantry and service awards let's see some of it:
- Padma Vibhushan (Awarded Posthumously)
- PVSM (Param Vishisht Seva Medal)
- UYSM (Uttam Yuddh Seva Medal)
- AVSM (Ati Vishisht Seva Medal)
- YSM (Yuddh Seva Medal)
- SM (Sena Medal)
- VSM (Vishisht Seva Medal)
- ADC (Aide-De-Camp)
-- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on General Bipin Rawat's untimely death
Gen Bipin Rawat was an outstanding soldier. A true patriot, he greatly contributed to modernising our armed forces and security apparatus. His insights and perspectives on strategic matters were exceptional. His passing away has saddened me deeply. Om Shanti.
